LIME SLURRY FINISH FOR BRICK AND STONE

We'd love to help with your next project!

WHAT IS LIME SLURRY?

A lime slurry finish is a traditional method of coating masonry homes with a smooth, flat layer of lime-based plaster. It offers a classic aesthetic and helps prevent moisture damage by allowing the walls to breathe. The slurry finish can be tinted to create a range of colors, from neutral to bold. The process is time-consuming but durable, resulting in a finish that can last for decades with proper maintenance.

WHERE CAN LIME SLURRY BE APPLIED?

Lime Slurry is a beautiful natural finish that is great for most masonry surfaces. With the right preparation lime slurry can be applied to most brick and stone surfaces inside and out. It is a great option to remodel and brick or stone fireplace, to refresh a homes exterior as a historic alternative to painted brick or stone, or to accent unique gables or sections of a home.

WHAT DOES LIME SLURRY LOOK LIKE?

Lime slurry from a distance can look like just painted brick or stone, however on closer inspection, we see that lime slurry is a thick plaster coating that is compressed into the masonry joints creating a pillowy or cloud like effect that rounds over sharp edges of stone and brick and fills in deep and uneven mortar joints. The finish is rough and sandy like stucco.

IS LIME SLURRY EXPENSIVE?

Lime Slurry is one of the most high end finishes you can apply to your exterior brick or stone. Costs will vary depending on square footage, if scaffold will be required for the project, and the condition of the masonry. Deep inset mortar or a rough uneven stone or brick will require much more plaster and much more labor to achieve the desired finish. This is not a budget finish for updating a rental property. However it is beautiful and long lasting.

CAN LIME SLURRY BE COLORED?

Lime Slurry can most definitely be colored. However it is more difficult than tinting a gallon of paint. The Whole order must be placed in advance and is tinted by the manufacturer in one large batch (for a large house this is 2 pallets worth of dry plaster or more). Another option is to use lime wash to glaze over lime slurry adding both depth, color, beauty and added protection. There's infinite artistic ways to color Slurry creating modern and old world finishes!
